interactive white board

This was one of my favorite projects and something I can definitely use in the future! We created projects to use on the Promethean interactive white board. To do so, we used a program called ActivInspire which provides all the tools necessary for a developing an activity.

To begin, you great a new flipchart. A flipchart is like a powerpoint, but interactive! You can add pictures, sound, text, games, charts, and much more! This program really has thought of everything. It is a bit confusing to figure out at first but once you know what you're doing, it is pretty fun!

This activity page is to let students practice labeling the phases of the moon. They are given the beginning phase and then are asked to label the next 3 after that. A pen tool is provided in the top left corner for students to write with. There is also an eraser in case they mess up. Once they have labeled all the phases, students can click on the red pins with the paint bucket to reveal the correct answer. The correct answers are hidden with black text in a black background. When the student fills the back ground with another color, the text is revealed! I added the pins so that students would know exactly where to click the paint bucket.

resume

I'm glad we took time in class to put together a resume! I've been meaning to put together my resume for a while but just never got around to it. There are many different ways to compile the information, however; we used a template provided in Microsoft Word. In the resume we included
Names
Institutions attended
Experience
Skills
References
Description of job

There were a few sections in which I need to go back and add more information but, for the most part, I competed the resume as I would for a job. There were also a lot of things that I didn't know where I should list them. For example, where do I list my study abroad experience?

Even though this was a great exercise, I will be elaborating on my resume in the future and taking it to a the writing center before submitting it to future employers.

tidbits.

This is just a running list of the fun & useful websites mentioned during class

http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/
This site has a library of images that are high quality and free to use! Here is an example of an image  I found on freedigitalphotos.net

Animoto

Animoto can be used to produce short little videos with photos, music, and text. The website provides templates and backgrounds for the videos. They also have pictures and music you can add! This would be a cool way to let your class create presentations. Instead of the typical powerpoint, you can make a moving show of information and images.

Here is a video about animals I made using Animoto

Make your own slide show at Animoto.

Inspiration 9

I created a web to expand on the idea that all living things have 3 basic needs: food, water, and air.
I like the rapid fire tool for classroom use but creating a web beforehand would also be a good tool to use when furthering student understanding of a topic. Students can add ideas and examples that connect with the main topic.

timetoast

a cool new site to create timelines

timetoast.com allows you to create simple timelines for free! They have pre-made timelines or you can use the simple tool to create your own with pictures, dates, and links to other websites.

right of the bat, there are a few ways I can see this being used in the classroom

SCIENCE: make a timeline to track an experiment! An easy one we can do in kindergarten would be tracking mold. We would begin by putting a piece of fresh bed in a bag and taking a picture to add to our timeline. We could take a picture every Friday and track how much mold is grown!

READING: duh! This is a great tool to use in early grades when tracking story lines. As I read with the class, we could create a timeline together to show how the story progresses. Maybe we could use page numbers instead of dates! This would be an easy way to involve the class and engage them throughout the  story.

HISTORY: again, duh! Make a timeline of events! Timelines are great visuals to show how an event progressed and timetoast allows you to add pictures which is great! You could even make the history timeline personal to your own class by tracking major events in the classroom. For example: 100 day of school, everyone says alphabet, field day, birthdays, holidays, etc.

I created a timetoast that showed my journey in college but then I saw this Olympic timeline which is way cooler!
